The tasting starts with non oxidative wines made with Chardonnay and Savagnin = Tramier then move oxidative wines with different blending and ageing years, it's quite tough because the level of alcohol of Jura wines is quite high, be prepared!

Mosel is quite calm, ideal for Canu, Kajak and Stand-Up Paddle. Attention to the motorboat that makes a quite big wave!

On the steep slopes, the vines are trained on the single stock. You see often the monorail which goes up and down the vineyard slopes, It's a speciality of Mosel.
This is an interesting place to stay in the middle of the town Bernkastel. You are well cared for by an owner and the staff.
The name of the town Bacharach is originated from Celtic "Baccaracum"
which could mean the altar of Bacchus!

There are some very nice wineries in this town, we were at Ratzenberger.
This time our aim was the southern part of champagne. Cellar visit at Rémy Massin et Fils, a friendly family own champagnoir.
Their Premier-Cru vineyards are optimal south-east facing, the soil here is clay-limestone.

Gattinara is a small wine village with the beautiful vineyard hills.
Main red grape is nebbiolo as it is in Piedmont, but here there are many subnames(Clone) of nebbiolo.
We have stayed at Anzivino Viticoltori in the middle of town. They have some cosy rooms, each room has a name of nebbiolo clone.
Owner Emanuele is a very gentle person and cares not only of his vineyards, but also his guests very well.
He told us that the family comes originally from Milan and sometimes in 90' they bought an old distillery and started to make wines.
A 30 minutes walk from cantina up to the hill, you will find torre delle castelle and beautiful view over the town.
Typical food: Beef Tartare, Salad Russa, Vitello Tonnato, also Risotto al vino prunent (nebbiolo) e foie gras.. delicious

The small town Oira has 120 inhabitants and is very close to the border to Switzerland. Very north of Piedmont and Italy.
We have stayed at Cantine Garrone's cosy B & B with nice breakfast service.
The house of B & B is a former customs house and called Cá d'Maté (casa della Mateo)which also contains a cellar for wine maturation.
Mario Garrone showed us a small town of Oira around, an old church and the antique cheese fabric where the special production "Ossolano Prunent" is matured in a barrel. Between 8 Layers of Toma cheese, the prunent grape skins will be sandwiched.
Valli Ossolane is D.O.P since 2009, grapes have been cultivated since 14 Century.. the main grapes are Prunent (Nebbiolo), Croatina, Merlot, Chardonnay.
There is a restaurant in the next house where you can enjoy the typical food and the local wine.
Typical food: there are several, but for example: filetto all'Ossolana con prociutto crudo da Vigezzo e toma d'alpe, l'antica zuppa di Oira
